CANDELABRUM OPERA – ZURICH

The Zurich Opera House’s 19th century light fixture is Switzerland’s largest and oldest electric chandelier which is still in use. LIGHT ON’s comprehensive technical review of the venue’s lighting facilities revealed that the chandelier had major mechanical defects. In the course of the renovation, halogen lamps were installed to achieve a higher level of illumination. In order to counter their high heat emissions, special bases were developed which cool the light source and prevent the overheating of the sensitive glass. The desired warm effect of the colour of the light has been achieved due to the fact that the new lamps are dimmable. In addition, the old, delicate glass fixtures of the chandelier were re-secured with four wire threads. The splendour of the chandelier has now been preserved thanks to LIGHT ON’s technical expertise in the field of lighting.
